Services that We Offer:
Line Editing
One of our favorite services to offer! Work with us to make your prose sing! Line editing is often interchanged with the term copyediting. However, line editing is unique in that it blends copyediting and developmental editing. Not only will we edit for grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but we will look at your book line by line to consider word choice, syntax, and the beauty of the prose. We will recommend shifts and changes to perfect your manuscript. We will work closely together over several weeks to ensure that the final product of your book is as perfect as can be. This is a very detailed line-by-line edit to perfect your book.
We will provide an intensive Line Edit that will whip the details of your book in the best shape possible for release. Our goal is to give your book a clear advantage in a competitive marketplace and exceed your expectations. Every sentence and every word in your book will be carefully considered. Not only will we edit for spelling, grammar, punctuation, tense consistency, and continuity, but we will also suggest changes to sentence structure, voice consistency, tone, and more.
Copyediting
Work with us to whip the details of your manuscript into publication-ready shape. We will comb through each sentence and word of your novel, focusing mainly on correcting spelling, punctuation, grammar, tense, and continuity. We will also lightly suggest ways to perfect your prose. This is a detailed edit to make sure that the mechanics of your book are in tip-top shape but doesn’t go into quite the same line-by-line detail as a line edit.
Final Proofread
A Final Proofread is the very last step in your publishing journey. If you’ve made it this far, congratulations! Publication Day is just around the corner! It’s time to celebrate.
A Final Proofread puts one last pair of laser-focused eyes on your manuscript. Ideally, your proofreader won’t be your Line Editor or a beta reader. This type of edit is designed to utilize a third party’s eyes to be a final layer of coverage for typos, continuity errors, spelling, and grammar errors. A proofreader will make sure that you didn’t suddenly switch the spelling of a character’s name mid-novel or suddenly change the way you use ellipses midway.
When you work with us for a Final Proofread, we will go through several rounds of proofreading your novel. We won’t be focusing on how pretty sentences sound or any plot elements. Rather, we will only focus on the detailed grammatical elements of your book. When we turn it over to you, it will be ready to release to the world.
Developmental Edit
A Developmental Edit is the perfect choice for the author determined to publish a book that goes above and beyond expectations. If you have a manuscript that is nearly finished but feels somewhat incomplete or problematic, this may be the editing choice for you. We will dive deep into the plot and overall structure of your novel, analyzing it for structure, characters, genre expectations, theme, point of view, tension, pacing, reader satisfaction, and other essential elements. We will suggest edits to repair weak links within your prose. Our focus will be on the big picture, rather than the details of your novel. We will suggest ways to increase tension, improve the plot, and deepen the characters and theme.
Manuscript Critique
Sometimes you just need a second pair of eyes on your manuscript to ensure that you are on the right track. You are confident that you have a great story in the works, but you don’t feel ready for a full Developmental or Copyedit. The Manuscript Critique to the rescue. We will read and provide detailed notes to help guide you to a fully finished novel.
You can choose to have us conduct a full manuscript read-through and critique or choose to have us work with only a few chapters.

Christa Petzold
“Working with Britt on my debut novel was a breeze. She made every part of the copy editing process both easy and enjoyable. From helping me figure out which service I needed, to returning my finished manuscript–everything was done in a timely, professional manner, with kindness, encouragement, and a personal touch. Collaborating with an editor can sometimes feel intimidating, but working with Britt was only ever encouraging and uplifting. I know my novel was better for having had her on my team.”

Bailey Cornell
“This was my first time hiring an editor, and I’m so glad I found Britt at Pro Book Edits. It was such a delight working with her, from her professionalism to her friendliness, to her knowledge of the writing craft and attention to detail. She was able to catch things I never would have on my own, and my story came out on the other side, not only cleaner, but my story and characters are richer. I am so thankful for Britt and hope to use her help on future projects.”

Kathryn Hawke
“Working with Pro Book Edits was such a wonderful experience for me! The proofreading was fast and efficient and the communication and understanding from Britt and Erica was amazing. The editing was top quality and gave my book the last finishing touches it needed! And working with them for my book blurb and author bio was just as amazing! I wouldn’t have been able to weave the blurb in such a way as they did.
I can’t recommend their work enough!”

Allie Otoski
“Working with Britt on my debut novel was such an incredible experience. She made the entire copy editing process easy, smooth, and enjoyable. She genuinely cared about my story and helped me make it the absolute best it could be! Not only is she a qualified and thorough editor, but she is also available and ready to answer any and all questions about the entire publishing process. She is truly amazing!”

V. K. Dixon
“Working with Britt was everything I’d hoped and prayed for in an editor. Not only is she a knowledgeable and skilled copyeditor, she brought so much excitement and care to our work together. Her creative insight truly helped to bring my vision to life. She not only understood my writing style and the story I was trying to tell, she helped me to refine it and encouraged me as I pursued it.”

M. J. Hannah
“Britt took my clumsy words and turned them into the story I’ve been dreaming of writing. She suggests changes that are consistent with your own voice as an author but that elevate your words. Her sense of pacing and tension are so spot on. I have a couple of publishing steps left before I release my book, but Britt will be my first pick as editor for my next books.

Cynthia Jane H.
“I first came to Britt for developmental edits. She whipped my book into shape and showed me how I could deepen and strengthen the story, which needed extensive rewrites if I’m being honest. When it came time for copyedits, I asked her to take me on as a client again because I knew I could trust her to be honest with me and make my book shine. I was not disappointed. She caught so many details that my proofreader said there wasn’t much to do once he got to it. If you want to publish a book that you’re proud of, pick this company.”

V. Linton
“Britt was such a pleasure to work with. She knew exactly what I was trying to say, and her edits and suggestions perfected my words and the flow of my story. She prompts you to clarify and refine the plot of your novel and she’s a whiz at catching plot holes. I highly recommend working with her.”

Amanda M.
“Britt conducted a manuscript critique for me, and I couldn’t have been happier. My novel just wasn’t working, and I was about to give up on the entire thing. Britt’s constructive and helpful notes helped me to see all of the weak points of my book, and what’s more, she helped me to correct them. Because of her, I realized that the intro to my book had nothing to do with the rest of my plot. I’d just gotten attached to the scene, and it had set the wrong tone for the rest of my book. It was back to the drawing board for me as the plot needed a lot of reworking, but I think I finally see a way to finish my book. Five-star editor!”

Heather Wood
As an editor and an author, it was important to me to find an editor who could not only bear the burden of ensuring my work was clean so I didn’t have to, but who was knowledgeable enough to help me grow in both of those arenas. Working with Britt and Erica was a very positive experience. They were encouraging and professional and made the editing process something I could enjoy, not dread. I took several notes on ways I can improve in the future based on their notes and was able to rest easy, knowing that my manuscript was handled by knowledgeable editors. I recommend their services.

I will be utilizing her talents again in the future, and highly recommend other writers to work with her!”

Rose Johnson
“Britt is wonderful! Her manuscript critiques are to the point, kind, and well thought out. I first worked with her on a Greek myth retelling and I can’t wait to work with her again in the future.”
